fishing can be dangerous

I hooked a large blue cat fish on my flagging jug

and brought him into the boat.

+++++

He flopped a couple of times

hitting my leg with one of his fins.

It went to the bone.

I cleaned the wound,

added large band-aid

and back to jug fishing.

On The Bright Side
March 28, 2012

The residents of Hemphill Care Center are getting into the swing of spring with lots of fun activities. We honored our Administrator and Assistant Administrator, Pat and Tiffani Bradberry with a special party during National Administrators Week. We also observed National Social Workers Month this month by giving our social workers special goody baskets made just for them. Today we give special recognition and appreciation to Judy Wilson for her expertise in keeping all our medical records straight!
Welcome back Mary Lou Zingle, she is great to come by every Friday afternoon the play our Wii with us. On March 7th we enjoyed playing Monopoly all afternoon in observation of Monopoly’s 79th birthday. We had such a good time! We say a big thank you to all who came to entertain us throughout the month of March: Lakes Area Hospice Clowns, Hemphill Garden Club Ladies, Quincy Martindale  from Odyssey Hospice, The Macedonia Baptist Church Mission Ladies, The Piney Woods Pickers, First United Methodist Church, Brandi from Harbor Hospice, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cindy from Hospice in the Pines, our Craft Ladies Carol and Linda, Sandy Trahan and C. J. Michaels the One Man Band.
Our hearts  were blessed with worship services and gospel singing provided by; First Baptist Church, Church of Christ, Fairdale Baptist Church, Bethel Chapel Baptist Church, Parkway Baptist Church, Community Fellowship Church and Bethany Baptist Church.
To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day the VFW ladies auxiliary post 10351 came and brought their own leprechaun to entertain us during our St. Paddy’s Day party.
Our resident council selected Ann Pearce  as our resident of the month, Community Fellowship Church as our volunteer of the month and Peggy Goynes and Queena Brown as our employees of the month. We say thank you to our bingo sponsors; Church of Christ, Carletta from Texas Medical Enterprises and Parkway Baptist Church for playing bingo with us and for providing such great prizes.
Our highlight of the month was our “Spring Fling” dance. We got into the swing of Spring literally by making out wheelchairs dance to do-wop music from the 50’s. we had a wonderful evening together. Thank you activity staff, Dodie Roberts, Mary Ann McDaniel for the beautiful  spring flowers that decorated our tables and Cathy Spears for the loan of her CD’s.
We enjoyed National Waffle Day with homemade waffles provided by Cindy from Hospice in the Pines. Yummy. Tomorrow we are looking forward to a pizza party which is being given to us by Lanes Grocery. We express our appreciation for everyone that works there for making this possible for us.
Our deepest sympathy go out to the families of Celedonia Pederson and Dorothy Horn during their time of loss.
We are thankful to God for his blessings on Hemphill Care Center and for giving us a “Springtime on the Bright Side”.

poor little channel catfish

Filed under: Fishing & Hunting — Freddie Keel @ 6:53 am

When I picked up my jug line, I felt a heavy fish.

Since I was baiting with live perch,

I’m thinking big flathead catfish.

He was tugging and I was gradually bringing him to the surface,

when the jug line went slack.

He was gone?

++++

When I brought the rest of the jug line into the boat,

I had a small channel cat that had been abused.

The little channel cat had teeth marks of a big fish up to his fins.

It appears this is what happened:

I caught the little channel cat fish

and some much larger fish decided it would

eat my little channel cat fish.

When I came along and started to retrieve my jug line,

he simply release the little catfish to freedom.

++++++

Comments:

Guys, I would like to let you know were to purchase adjustable depth jug lines. http://www.fishingnoodles.com makes a commercial product that is designed with a larger float, 1 inch tube and has a line spool that make them depth adjustable. You can get a variance of colors and parts to make your own. http://www.fishingnoodle.com.
