Once our traps are modified to capture small pigs, we should eliminate several pest.

They better be careful as I moved a trap into that area today.

Hog caught using snare

hog-snare-010416

This sow would not go into our hogs traps,

so we located her trail and set a snare.

The next day she was caught.

The hogs we catch are cleaned, cooked and eaten.

They are corn-fed hogs.

Snare video coming.

Hogs and Hog Traps

MOULTRIE DIGITAL GAME CAMERA

The hogs are cautious of traps.   The adults might stick their heads in the trap drop, but normally will not enter.

Now pigs are less cautious.   They will occasionally enter the trap for a meal.

There are two pigs in this trap.   The trigger wire is placed high.   They will not trip the gate.    We are trying to encourage mom and dad to enter.  Hopefully, they will see kids enjoying pile of corn and decide to enter.   In this case, that did not happen.

No more rooting in our hay meadows for this guy

hog-111315a

Our hay meadows are constantly being destroyed by wild feral hogs.   This was one of about fifteen that entered a meadow just before dark.  He was too large for my atv to handle so I used the loader of our tractor.

hog-tusk-111315He had some nasty looking tusk.

one of these guys made a mistake

They walked all around the trap.   Ate the corn at the mouth of the trap, but would not enter.  They are encouraging the use of Tannerite.

And then the temptation was just too much for this guy.

Trapping is not efficient method of controlling feral hogs.  Oh you might catch one out of twenty or so, but that’s losing ground when considering total numbers.
