On The Bright Side

Mary Howell

Experts say that a person can have up to 10,000 or more separate thoughts during  a day’s time.  Many of these thoughts are directly related to choices that we make every day.

We may not realize that everything we do is a matter of choice.  When we wake up in the morning, we choose to either get out of bed and start our day or stay in bed and waste the day.

We have a choice to eat a healthy breakfast or to do without breakfast.  We make a choice to take care of our hygiene and make a choice of what to wear that day.

We either have a choice to watch Good Morning America or watch the news on the Today show.  Workers make a choice to go to work and fulfill their individual duties or skip a day of work and miss a day’s pay.

School students have a choice to do their best in their studies or to barely get by with a passing grade.  When they are older, students have to make choices to continue their education or drop out and let their parents or the government support them financially.

Men and women, regardless of age, have a choice to marry or remain single throughout their lives.  They also choose to have children within the bonds of marriage or to have illegitimate children.

When we go to the polls, the voters has a choice to cast our ballot for the best candidate and to fill government office all the way from the county courthouse to the White House or those that don’t care can stay at  home and gripe about our political leaders.  We need to realize that our votes make a difference and can affect the lives of our children and grandchildren.

We make a choice to be financially secure and save our money or to spend our money foolishly and live from paycheck to paycheck.  People can choose to purchase their own home or live in a rented apartment.

We can choose to drive the car within our financial means or drive a luxury car or stand in line for a government welfare check.

Every day people make choices to take care of their bodies and ensure a healthy future or have a bad habit that will be harmful to their health.

People who are talented musicians, artists,  or writers can choose to use their God given talents or they can go through life and never sing, play an instrument, write a story or paint a masterpiece.

Regardless of how many choices we make during our lifetime, the best choice we have is to choose Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.  Even when we fail to make the right choice, God’s unfailing love is always with us.  God makes the difference and gives us a life on the bright side.
