Preserving a squirrel tail

There is very little meat in the tail so you can just salt the raw end and lay it in the position you want and let dry a few week to a month in a dry area.  No need to get any more complicated than that.

Garrett has removed the tail bone and now is rubbing salt on the skin.

  1. This reminds me of the time my neighbor let me watch him crop the tails on a litter of Boxers. He let me have the tails and I was elated. I took them to school wrapped in a paper towel. Not being able to talk in class, I simply turned around and placed the paper towel full of tails in the pencil tray on the girl’s desk behind me. When she opened up the “package” she let out a war whoop that you could have heard in the next county. We both stayed after school that day.

    No doubt, your squirrel tail is intended for a bicycle. Have fun!
