OCTOBER 26, 2011

The month of October has been filled with fall festivities for the residents of Hemphill Care Center. We have been blessed with showers of rain and cooler temperatures which have made our days pleasant for all our activities here.
We began October with an appreciation party for our kitchen staff, delicious homemade nachos, cake and drinks were served by our activity staff. We appreciate the wonderful job that our kitchen workers do everyday in preparing all our meals for us.
Our resident council selected Foy Forehand and our friends from Hemphill’s Church of Christ as our volunteers of the month. They are faithful to come play bingo with us twice a month and lead us in gospel sing-a-longs every other Wednesday night. We congratulate Lorene Jones who was named as our resident of the month and Charla McCary and Katherine Thomas as our employees of the month.
One of the highlights of the month was a visit from Katherine Crippens from Texas Parks and Wildlife. She taught us everything there is to know about alligators, she even brought in a baby alligator for us to see. We enjoyed making fall wreaths and jack-o-lanterns for our rooms this month with the craft ladies(Carol & Linda) and our friends from the Hemphill Garden Club.
We say a big Thank You to our staff for washing our wheelchairs, which are now sparkling clean.
We were blessed with worship services and gospel singings provided by Hemphills First Baptist Church, Hemphills Church of Christ, Fairdale Baptist Church, Bethel Chapel Baptist Church. Community Fellowship Church, Parkway Baptist Church, Little Flock Baptist Church, Bethany Baptist Church and Bro. Lakey.
We say thank you to our friends from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for playing dominoes with us each Wednesday afternoon and Mary Lou Zingalefor stopping by every Friday to play the Wii with us. We also say thank you for the lively bingo games which were sponsored this month by Hemphills Church of Christ, Parkway Baptist Church and Carletta Cramer from Texas Home Health.
`We always look forward to our karoake afternoons with Marti Bible. We have lots of fun pretending we are singing sensations. The Pineywoods Pickers came last week to give us a concert of good ole down home pickin’ and grinnin’. We say thank you to the United Methodist Church for providing our refreshments for our concert. Our mission ladies from Macedonia Baptist Church treated us to wonderful pies and cakes last Thursday afternoon. We would like to thank them for the delicious goodies. Marissa from Jordan Health Services stopped by for our “Storytime with Marissa” hour, we really enjoy our interactive time with her.
Last Friday night we had our “Movie on the Lawn”. We watched the classic movie ET and had wonderful treats from the snack bar. A great time was had by all. We would like to thank Hornet Express Video for the loan of their movies every month.
We enjoyed a special treat yesterday courtesy of Odyssey Hospice. They have a special pumpkin patch set up in Jasper and invited us to come by and pick out our own pumpkins and even decorate them if we wanted to. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
The owners and staff of Hemphill Care Center welcome everyone to an open house party today from noon to 2pm. Families and friends are welcome to stop by and see all our beautiful new renovations.
My family and I are having a special Birthday Party today at 230pm for me and all of my friends here that are having birthdays in October.
During the next few days we will   be filling trick or treat bags, getting ready for all the trick or treaters we hope to get.
We are looking forward to making jewelry with Sandy Trahan Friday morning. She brings the most beautiful beads for us to work with. On Friday afternoon C.J. Michaels the One Man Band is stopping by to play all the old classics for us.

We will close out the month of October with our big Fall Festival Next Monday afternoon. We want to thank all the volunteers, vendors and staff who are working so hard to make this a fun-filled day for us.
Our love and sympathy are extended to the families and friends of Donna Robinson, Dan Rach, Sunny Beard and Lougena McClelland. Our hearts go out to you in this time of sorrow.
We say a BIG thank you to all of you who made it possible for us to have days On The Bright Side in October
