On The Bright Side
August 31, 2011

The days of summer may be winding down but for the residents at Hemphill Care Center the days are filled with lots of love and fellowship. To begin the month of August the Lakes Area Hospice Clowns entertained the residents with their fun songs and cherry antics. To help us stay cool our activity staff delighted us with delicious treats including root beer floats, popsicles, popcorn and ice cream. We had a s’more party to celebrate national s’more day.
Our August bingo games were sponsored by; Hemphill’s Church of Christ, The American Legion, Parkway Baptist Church and Texas Home Health. We thank each of our sponsors for all the prizes they give to us.
We would like to thank a couple of volunteers that are faithful to come every week. Mary Lou Zingle comes every week to help us play our wii games. We sure are getting good at bowling! The young men from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints come every Wednesday afternoon to play dominoes with us.
We enjoyed our first “Storytime” with Marissa from Jordan Home Health. She read the book “America the Beautiful” to us and showed us the beautiful pictures of our beloved America.
Our residents always look forward to our Tuesday afternoon matinée and would like to say a special thank you to Hornet Express Video for loaning us their movies to enjoy.
We were blessed with worship services and gospel sing a longs hosted by; Hemphill’s Church of Christ, Fairdale Baptist Church, Bethel Chapel Baptist Church, Community Fellowship Church, Parkway Baptist Church, Hemphill’s First Baptist Church, and our newest volunteer Bro. Lakey.
During the 3rd week of August the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10351 surprised us with ice cream and cookies. The Pineywoods Pickers and the First United Methodist Church brought smiles with their music and cool refreshments on a hot afternoon. The mission ladies from Macedonia Baptist Church came and brought delicious fresh-baked pies and cakes for us to enjoy.
Last week our activities included Tiffany’s Tasties and C.J. Michaels the one man band, who  we always enjoy so much. The staff and residents honored Amber Williams with a baby shower last Thursday. We are excited to welcome a new member to our family here!
We would like to say a big thank you to Janet Jones for the dvd’s and clothing she donated this month.
Our resident council selected Little Flock Baptist Church as our volunteers of the month, Baker Tiner as our resident of the month and Charekia Smith and Tiffany Harris as our employees of the month.
A big Happy Birthday goes to our oldest resident Ebb Dickerson, who celebrated his 102nd birthday on August 14th and one of our new residents Estella Tibbs celebrated her birthday on August 8th.
We were all saddened by the loss of one of our own nurses Cindy Cook. Our sympathy goes out to her family and the families of Sonja Smith and O.C. Horn.
Today we look forward to coffee and donuts this morning, music and fellowship with Quincy Martindale and we are honoring our med-aides this afternoon with an appreciation party.
We thank all of our families and friends for stopping by to visit and for giving us Days on the Bright Side.
