On The Bright Side
Mary Howell
January 26, 2011

The year 2011 is off to a great start with lots of activities to brighten the
days for the residents of Hemphill Care Center.

We celebrated the coming of the new year with special music by CJ Michaels and
a delicious pizza party hosted by the activity staff.

Our residents enjoyed an afternoon of laughter when the Hope Family from Lakes
Area Hospice came by for a visit. Laughter flowed during their performance.

We celebrated the January 8th birthday of Elvis Presley by eating fried peanut
butter and banana sandwiches and drinking Shasta sodas, which are two of Elvis’s favorite treats. The party was highlighted by listening to a CD of some of his
classic songs.

Our Resident Council met January 6th and selected our volunteer of the
month-Lakes Area Hospice, our resident of the month-Dwain Rhame and our
employees of the month- Martha Margieolis and Delois Thomas.

On January 13th we enjoyed making bird feeders out of pine cones, peanut butter
and bird seed with the help of our Hemphill Garden Club friends.

Tiffany Green treated us to delicious chili dogs. We always look forward to
“Tiffany’s Tasties” every month, but this month was exceptional.

Our bingo sponsors in January were Hemphill’s Church of Christ, Parkway Baptist Church, Texas Home Health and our own activity staff.

We say a big Thank You to these volunteers who take the time to brighten our day.

We were blessed with worship services and gospel sing-a-longs provided by our
friends from Hemphill First Baptist Church, Fairdale Baptist Church, Bethel
Chapel Baptist church, Parkway Baptist Church and Hemphill Church of Christ.
January 17th the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 10351 came by to visit and served us
wonderful refreshments.

Last Friday was National Pie Day. We had a pie party with a wide variety of
pies made by our staff, friends and family members. We had all the pie we could

We are looking forward to Friday when C.J. Michaels the One Man Band will
entertain us with his wide variety of golden oldies.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Mary Green, Darwin Stroud and Elouise McLemore.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Mrs Alma Hardy, who was one of
the first volunteers from the Hemphill Church of Christ. She and her husband
James were faithful volunteers to the Hemphill Care Center for more than 20
years. Our sympathy is also expressed to the family and friends of Pearl
Beauchamp, Wendell McDaniel and Merline Elrod.

We would like to say a big Thank You to all of our friends, families, care
givers and visitors who bring a ray of sunshine and give us a Day On The Bright
