On The Bright Side

Mary Howell

The sights and sounds of the Christmas Season have been wonderful during the month of December at the Hemphill Care Center.  The residents have been blessed with an outpouring of love and gifts from family and friends throughout Sabine County.

Our activity staff made our home beautiful with all the special decorations.  Everywhere we looked we could see Christmas.  We have a beautiful tree in the lobby which is a welcome sight for our guests.  Our larger tree in our dining room was decorated by our friends from the Hemphill Church of Christ.

Everyone knows how busy we are during a normal month but December has been highlighted with even MORE activities such as Christmas programs presented by County Line Baptist Church, Fairdale Baptist Church, Bethel Chapel and Parkway Baptist churches and the Rach Family.

Six Mile Baptist Church made it possible for us to have a free shopping spree. We could select gifts for our family and friends at NO cost to us.  We say a big “THANK YOU” for giving us the joy of giving.

Our annual Christmas Party was a grant success!  We had a large crowd of visitors, volunteers and family members.  Santa Claus made a special appearance and helped spread Christmas cheer.  We have been blessed with a wide variety of gifts such as handmade blankets, delicious treats, gift bags, fruit baskets, toiletries of every kind and beautiful poinsettias that help to make our home festive.

We were blessed with worship services and gospel singings under the direction of: Bethel Chapel Baptist Church, Hemphill’s Church of Christ, Fairdale Baptist Church, Hemphill’s First Baptist Church, and Bethany Baptist Church.  Appreciation is expressed to all of our bingo sponsors including: Parkway Baptist Church, Hemphill Church of Christ and our activity staff.  We want to say Happy Birthday to the following: Angie Martin, Freddie Weathered, Henry Phillips, Ruth Watson, Annie Patrick, Anna McKay, Bobbie Garrett, Daisy Lacroix, Jesse Allen and Faye Nethery.

Our December was also highlighted with visits from the Hope Family from Lakes Area Hospice,  Quincy Martindale from Odyssey Hospice, The Pineywoods Pickers and First United Methodist Church, Fairdale Baptist Church’ Clown Patrol, Hemphill Garden  Club Ladies, The Craft Ladies (Carole and Linda) Macedonia Baptist Church’ Mission Ladies and our domino players from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  All helped to make our holidays happy.  Congratulations to our Resident of the month Ann Strickland, our volunteer of the Month, C J Michaels and our Employees of the Month Betty Clark and Robin Dickerson.  Special Recognition was given to our Volunteer of the Year, Bethel Chapel Baptist Church and Resident of the Year, Henry Phillips.

We look forward to our New Year’s Eve Festivities which will include music by C. J. Michaels, the One Man Band and a pizza party at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 31st.

We thank God for making the year 2010 a wonderful year for the residents of Hemphill Care Center.  We ask His blessings upon our home during the New Year.  We wish our families and friends a joyous 2011.
